Water Based Sprinkler System 5) Alarm Valve
An Alarm Valve is installed between the water supply and the sprinkler piping. Under normal conditions, the valve remains closed to reverse flow but allows water to fill the sprinkler network.
Alarm Valve System
An Alarm Valve is a specialized check valve used in wet pipe fire sprinkler systems. It prevents reverse water flow while automatically activating an alarm whenever a sprinkler head operates due to fire. The alarm valve is one of the most important components of an automatic sprinkler system because it detects water movement and initiates both hydraulic and electrical fire alarms. What is an Alarm Valve? An Alarm Valve is installed between the water supply and the sprinkler piping. Under normal conditions, the valve remains closed to reverse flow but allows water to fill the sprinkler network. When a sprinkler head opens due to heat from a fire: Water begins flowing through the alarm valve. The valve opens automatically. Water is directed to the sprinkler system. Simultaneously, the alarm port activates a mechanical water motor gong and/or an electrical pressure switch. Fire alarms and monitoring systems receive the signal immediately.
